This Summer at Camp Pennsic ...

Seriously, I was telling my mother all that I was up to and she said it reminded her of my reports from summer camp when I was a kid, with me hanging out at the crafts house doing all sorts of fiddly things interspersed with group sing-a-longs and the like.  If I'd managed swimming and horseback riding, it would have been just like.

There's more swirling around in my head than I can possibly remember, but first I have to thank the folks at the Black Pearl and O'Choda for being so welcoming, and of course bytchearse for bringing me back home after all these years, and showing me that it was better than ever.  I didn't want to leave.

And not even riding the subway could harsh my vacation bliss buzz.  A more thorough post later (like tomorrow) when my brain cranks up to speed. For now let me say I had a wonderful time, and many many thanks to all the fine people who made it possible.

NB:  I submitted my description too late to appear in the printed bulletin, but it does appear in the on-line schedule.

Here's my pretty nameless dragon. It needs clicks to grow up. Please help it.

Adopt one today!

Meanwhile, I'm 3/4th packed for Pennsic ... or maybe only half if you count all the stuff that I've forgotten.

I had a wonderful time at my first Gather. You are all gracious, welcoming, and dang good cooks!  It was a pleasure to meet you all, and to have time to get to know some of you better.  I'm looking forward to the next time. :-)

My Pennsic class registration form is submitted.  Woot!

Singing 101: You too can sing around the campfire

Even better, the marvelous bard, Lady Katherine, has agreed to help me out with pointers on SCA performance practice and repertoire.

Pre-reg and camp fees all taken care of.  For two weeks!

*blink*

I'm taking a two week vacation for the first time EVER!

Now I just have to finish working up the class description of the Singing 101 class I want to teach and everything will be skittles and beer!

See Sarah. See Sarah freeze. Freeze Sarah, freeze! Sarah is at her first SCA camping event since 1996.

Sarah doesn’t mind the cold because the company is good and the stars are bright.
Shine stars, shine!

Sarah is happy. Sarah is happy because she is meeting lots of fabulous people. Sarah is also happy because she’s busy slinging drinks at the tavern.
Sling, Sarah sling!

Sarah is also too busy to mind that the water on the site is slowly turning her skin to sandpaper. Sarah is busy serving lunch. Sarah is busy serving dinner. Sarah is busy taking classes. Sarah is busy listening to bards.
Busy, busy, busy!

Sarah is also busy sitting up late chatting and laughing with new found friends. Wicked Pissah!
Drink Sarah, drink!

Sarah wonders if she’d be happier in a nice warm house. No, Sarah would not be happier in a warm house. Sarah is happy just where she is.
Smile, Sarah smile.

The first Whyt Whey sing thing seems to have been a success!  The music that I brought with me seemed to be familiar to some but not all which made the pacing of the evening go well.  I think there was general consensus that fun was had and that we should do it again on a regular basis.  Woot!

Next time I want to mix it up a little, and block out enough time to work on an easy part song as well as building the round repertoire.  I'm very much not thinking performance, I want keep the evenings focused on the idea that singing is fun and easy to do anywhere a few people plunk themselves down on a blanket.

New togs!

I'm pleased to reprort that the garb I ordered 1) arrived, 2) fits, 3) looks attractive, if I say so myself.

Now I just have to figure out where I'm going to store it all ...

Why is it that I can't get over the feeling that buying some garb would somehow be cheating?  I'm an adequate seamstress, so it's not that I can't sew for myself.  I'm just pressed for time these days and laying out large patterns in a NYC sized studio apartment is ... um .. challenging.  Also, I suspect that running up day/war garb while reasonably easy, just isn't engaging my creative drives.  Plenty of rationalization, but still, it feels like cheating.

I suspect that this is one of those situations where I have to tell the perfectionist side of my personality to chill and get the #$@! over it. :-)

Mood: Puzzled (Is there a way to add more moods to the drop-down list?)

I checked out Whyt Whey's Commons meeting last night, continued to put names with faces, and wouldn't you know it ... I got drafted.  Sucker!  I'm now the Deputy A&S officer and have been charged with organizing some opportunities for madrigal singing.  If you build they they will come?  What have I gotten myself into?  LMAO!
