I really enjoy Waterfire...and not just for the 'festival food' :-)
Sarah's second time I think, btycheras' (SP?) first time, though.
For those of you reading who don't know waterfire, check it out:

Thre are 2-3 more this season I think.
pulic/performance art in Downtown Providence on assorted Saturday evenings. Free. (except for the doodads you buy from the sidewalk vendors--I got an LED Bubble gun this time! and the food you choose to purchase.)
If you are going, never never never park at the Mall; get there (main lagoon) 1/2 hr before lighting and the best place to park is on Canal Street-there is a small park in between Canal and North Main that has a nice little parking lot.5-10 minute walk to the main lagoon area, and easy to escape from when you are ready to go home.
Ya-- the festival food is usually down by Hemenways and that tall monument (opposite end from the lagoon' )...kettle corn, cotton candy, doughboys, gyro, sausage, pastries, coffee, etc. Ask the cops. :-)

There's festival food?
I've only been once (2007), and I ate at a decent Italian restaurant a half-mile or so from the river.
Mostly, I was focused on taking pictures. Heh. No pun intended.
