Dining with grandparents
Feb. 24th, 2010 10:26 amThis morning's musing on the train was about the small handful of restaurants in and around Hazleton, PA where my grandparents would take us when we visited. There was the country club in the summer, where I'd always get a creme de menth parfait for dessert. The Knotty Pine Diner, which google tells me is still there. And, my favorite by far, Genetti's Tyrolean Room, a classic mid-century dining room/lounge complete with live performances on a Wurlizer organ ... ah "Flight of the bumble bee" you take me back! I have no recollection of the food, but I do remember the funky colored lights and that organ.
